Beginning the Year
It’s the first day back to school here in NT, but at home,
we’ve been “doing school” for a week and a half now. This is Grace’s
Kindergarten year, and I’m trying to take it seriously. Well, as seriously as I
can with a three year old boy and a crazy nine-month-old (AKA Danger Mouse) to
take care of and keep alive (yes, that is all I accomplish some days). That
said, serious learning doesn’t have to be, well, serious! As I pushed my
children on the swings at 8:45 this morning, I reflected on things I’ve come to
learn and reminded myself of things I need to practice daily. My theme of this
school year is: Live Intentionally. I feel like I did that well today, and I
want to challenge myself to do it every day.
I plan to use this blog as a kind of journal to document the year, to
inspire myself when I’m feeling low, and to store memories.
As I said, it all began (after coffee, of course) with some
“Phys. Ed” in the backyard before the baby’s nap.
and “Home Ec”.
After lunch, we read a Bible Story and a Saint Story. Then,
we did more “Phys. Ed” and took a bike ride around the block before we dug into
our Library books and headed to naptime.
Thinking back on the morning, I’m exhausted. This is not the
kind of school we think of traditionally, but we all learned a lot around here
today. We all accomplished a lot in a little time, and overall, there was a
feeling of peace. To live intentionally is not easy, nor is it natural for me,
but whenever I try to do this, the day goes immensely better. Of course we had
our meltdowns, timeouts, an episode of baby drinking from the dog’s water bowl
(ewwwww!)
and constant reminders and redirection. And…my house looks like this:
Yay! I am glad you are blogging now! Your day looked like fun! We are keeping it more preschool since my G is a few months younger than yours. We did about an hour of sit down school and the rest of the time they played (or whined). Lol... I do like the school time better than my home ec. :)
